01Preserve the source when data is missing
Stop using a failing device and explain the symptoms and any previous recovery attempts. Do not format the drive or install recovery tools on the affected storage. We assess the failure and discuss the recovery path, including limitations from damage, encryption or missing keys, before proceeding with approved work.
02Make backup discussions specific
For a planned review, identify which files matter, where they live, who owns the backup process and whether anyone has checked a restore. We can discuss workstation-level setup and testing within an agreed scope. Storage, software subscriptions, ongoing monitoring and advanced infrastructure requirements must be specified separately.
